Nocturnal Adventures

We were tired puppies yesterday. The night before last we went to bed at about 10:45. I was reading while Phil went straight to sleep. I could tell by the very loud rhythmic noises coming from his side of the bed. At about 11:10 Phil’s cell phone started ringing. I don’t know about anyone else but in our household if the phone rings after 11:00 it’s never the kids saying, “Hey I’m getting takeout, you want some?” If the phone rings they usually need to be bailed out in some way. This time it was Drool. Drool is going for the world record on number of times locked out of his vehicle. Of course his spare keys were on the fridge. So off I went to bail him out. It was just about 12:00 before I was crawling back into bed. Flip may not have taken the trip with me but he was still fully awake when I got back. At 12:30 and we both just starting to settle in, pillows finally just right and my body warmed up so I didn’t give Flip frost burn if I happen to get to close. We were at the happy drowsy state not quite asleep but comfortably on our way. That is when Sher came home. Due to the nature of the house we are staying at when the screen door opens it sounds like a cymbal going off right by our bed. I would like to say this was the end of our nocturnal adventures but sadly this was not the case.
At 3:30 in the morning we could hear a car alarm go off. In my hazy state it took about five honks before I rolled over to Flip and said, “Isn’t that your truck?” It was like I had touched Flip with a cattle prod. He was up and to the window in one fluid motion. “Shit.”
“Do you want me to come with you?” I asked. “No I got it.” So he fumbled for his pants while I tried to find his keys. Half an hour later that adventure was over. Some had tried to unlock the truck by snaking his arm in the barely open passenger window and this had set the alarm off. No damage or loss. Now I’m trying to not get scalded by Flip’s freezing cold body. So around 4:30 we are for the fourth time that night trying to fall asleep when the cat right on cue starts into a long gagging routine while dislodging a particularly wet sounding hairball. Yes folks it was a great night.
