Mt Robson

After I got down off my first hike I raced home, washed everything, repacked and set off for Mt Robson with Sheri. We had a blast. My personal favorite moment was driving home afterwards, with Sheri perkily talking about where we are going next year, the gear she needs, etc. Excellent another convert.

We did a five day, four night hike. It was neat going back to the same mountain and doing a very different type of hike. Our first night we spent at Whitehorn. I had taken the bulk of the weight but expected to still sail by Sheri. Not so. She kicked my ass the first day. She was tripping along with her eighteen pound pack while I was wheezing away under my 45+ bag. It probably didn't help that I'm carrying an extra 25 pounds on my hind end either. The second day I had her carry an extra 5ish pounds. What a difference that made. (Insert evil giggle). She's a trouper though she never complained at all. We stayed at the Marmot campsite. After we got to camp and got set up we hiked up to Toboggan Falls.
The next day we hiked up above the Robson Glacier and then to the toe of the Robson Glacier and had lunch there. Sheri was thrilled that she got to touch a glacier. There was a massive ice arch where the glacier river ran back under the glacier. Just as we were walking up to it about two tons of ice dropped heavily off the underside of the arch. Sheri's expression was priceless. It took her a bit to work up the courage to touch it after that.

The next day dawned beautiful and I woke Sheri early so we could watch it. The nearly full moon was setting behind us as the sun rose over one mountain then set behind Rearguard Mt and then re-rose again. Very serene and special. We then hiked up to Hargraves Lake and then up to the cave. It was a long hike up to the cave. They show it on the map as a little five dashes but it was probably as long as the Toboggan trail. Worth it though. We stopped for lunch above the cave while a very curious marmot kept checking us out

Is this my best side?
That afternoon we hiked back down to Whitehorn complete with a Cammy style shower in Emperor Falls.

Sheri says who ever came up with the Vaseline trick for blisters is a goddess. She even made take a picture of her heels at the end of the trip. Look ma no blisters.

Mt Assiniboine

Well I did my two hikes. The first one was to Assiniboine. We had a blast. I haven't laughed that hard and that often for ages. I went with the same girls that I went to Mt Robson with last year. From left to right, myself, Cammy, Merrilea, Hillory and Cindy.
.
We took a helicopter up the mountain saving us two days of hiking. I was very excited as I have always wanted to go for a helicopter ride. The girls were great and let me have the front seat.
Merrilea and Cammy in the helicopter.

A deer that wandered through camp.

As you can see the views sucked.

Another crappy view as we had lunch on Windy Ridge.

The only down fall of the whole trip the mosquitoes. They were vicious.

Parting shot before we hiked out.

Bubbly toes.
